David Leroy Gumaer passed away on June 30, 2025, in Woodland Hills, California. He was born on December 16, 1950, in Johnson City, New York.

Dave was a boisterous, outspoken, and methodical man known for his integrity and tireless work ethic. He proudly served as a United States Marine during the Vietnam War, where he was especially proud of the humanitarian aid his unit provided to Vietnamese farmers. After his military service, Dave went on to serve the City of Los Angeles for 35 years as a public servant, earning numerous certificates for exemplary service and dedication.

Outside of work, Dave found joy in simple pleasures. He loved reading, renewing old tools, and most especially, giving others a good deal at the swap meet — a gesture that reflected his generous spirit.

One of his favorite sayings was: “Idle hands are the devil’s workshop,” a phrase that reflected his belief in the value of staying busy, being productive, and doing right by others.

His proudest accomplishments were raising five hardworking children and being a part of his grandchildren’s lives. He deeply valued fairness, honesty, and doing what was right. He passed those values on to his family, which he considered his greatest legacy.

Dave is survived by his loving wife, Linda, whom he met in 1974; his children Jennifer, Becky Anne, Richard, Stephanie, and Patricia; his grandchildren Samuel and Mia; and his son-in-law Hector.

A memorial will be held at a later date to celebrate Dave’s life and to scatter his ashes, as his family honors the man he was — a father, a husband, a Marine, and a life guide who gave more than he received.
