Seldon died peacefully during the night of May 25, 2025 from complications due to emphysema and is preceded in death by his parents and two younger sisters.

Born in Coatesville, Pennsylvania on September 8, 1953, Seldon was one of the first black students to be integrated at a white high school. An excellent athlete he competed on school teams during every season of sports.

At nineteen he headed west to Los Angeles and sunny Southern California. Within weeks of his arrival he found employment at the Veterans’ Administration Hospital in Long Beach where he remained working for more than fifty-one years. It was there, thirty-one years ago he met the girl he would one day marry.

His ability to relate to patients and staff, especially those in psychiatric related units made him liked and appreciated by all those who were privileged to know or work with him.

He was active in the union and received many awards during his years at the VA with the most recent being the Western Regional Service Award for Excellence in Nursing, the second highest award given by VA Nursing.

He stayed up to date on current events and was an avid sports fan. If he was your friend, you could be assured he would always have your back.

Seldon will be sorely missed by his wife, stepdaughter and three grandchildren in California as well as by his niece, three half sisters, grand nephews, and relatives in Pennsylvania.

We love you, Seldon.

May you rest in peace.
